The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has directed the State government to provide maximum financial assistance to the families of three Tamil Nadu natives who died after inhaling toxic gas at the waste treatment plant of a hotel in Kattappana.
In an order issued by KSHRC chairperson Alexander Thomas, the Chief Secretary was instructed to take immediate steps to sanction the maximum eligible aid from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) if compensation has not yet been disbursed to the affected families.
The incident occurred on October 1, 2025, when three workers from Tamil Nadu — Jayaraman, Michael, and Sundarapandian — got trapped and died inside the sewage treatment plant of the hotel.
