The protesters, who have been staging a sit-in outside the Deputy Commissioner's office for a prolonged period, began their march from the Verka Plant carrying banners and flags, demanding government jobs and the fulfillment of their pending demands.
Police stopped the march by erecting barricades on the route leading to the Chief Minister's residence.
A scuffle broke out when the protesters tried to move past the barricades, resulting in a tense situation.
Some protesters sustained minor injuries during the jostling, while a few participants, including women, reportedly fainted at the protest site.
