Protest on Wednesday against planned private port in Ankola

Various associations in Uttara Kannada are organizing a protest against the planned private deep-sea port project in Ankola. Protesters argue that the project will negatively impact local farmers and fishermen and claim that consent letters for the project were falsified.
Why it matters
This reflects local resistance to large-scale infrastructure projects that threaten traditional livelihoods and environmental stability.
Members of some farmers and fishermen associations will take out a protest march on Wednesday against the private deep-sea greenfield port project planned at Keni in Ankola taluk of Uttara Kannada.
Ankola Uttara Kannada Kadathi Sarva Samajkal Hitrakshan Vedike and other organisations will lead the protest march. Protestors will gather at the Ankola Swatantrya Sangrama Smarak Bhavan, garland the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and walk to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to submit a memorandum.
“We have submitted a request to all relevant departments, including the district administration and the district police, to allow the protest. If permission is not given for the protest, a satyagraha will be organised in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office,” he said.
