Gajuwaka MLA and Andhra Pradesh TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao has urged the State government to take steps to protect the land along the Gajuwaka canal pipeline corridor from encroachments and develop it as a walking track for local residents.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly session on Wednesday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the 7.2-km-long open canal passing through the urban areas of the Gajuwaka constituency had posed a safety risk in the past, with children and cattle occasionally facing the danger of falling into the canal. He said that a proposal to convert the open canal into a pipeline had been made earlier and that works were taken up after obtaining the necessary approvals under the leadership of Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said it was important to ensure that the land did not become vulnerable to encroachments once the pipeline works were completed.
