Environmentalists and local residents have strongly opposed the proposed plan to establish a Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility by a private company at Kallai village near Kulithalai.
As per the plan, M/s Nava Buddha Agencies Private Limited will set up the facility on about 15 acres of land at Kallai. It will collect and transport the bio medical waste from the hospitals and treat and dispose them by using advanced treatment methods. It will provide integrated waste management services tailored for industries. The company said that it will minimise ecological impact and maximise sustainability outcomes and all operations will comply with State and Central governments guidelines for safe waste handling and treatment. Customised solutions will be designed for hospitals, industries, municipalities, and corporate clients. It will be established at an estimate of ₹7 crore.
