Proposal to shift SETC bus stand to Mettupalayam Road put on hold
A proposal to relocate the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus stand in Coimbatore to Mettupalayam Road has been put on hold. Officials indicate that the project is currently stalled as focus shifts toward the development of the Vellalore integrated bus stand.

The proposal to shift the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus stand from Gandhipuram to the bus stand on Mettupalayam Road appears to have been put on hold, nearly a year after the plan was mooted to ease congestion in Gandhipuram.
A senior official of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Coimbatore, said the Corporation had not received any communication from the Transport Department regarding the proposed relocation of SETC services from Gandhipuram to the Mettupalayam Road bus stand.
The proposal was mooted in 2025 in view of the congestion in Gandhipuram, where the central, town and SETC bus stands are located. The plan envisaged shifting long-distance SETC services to the Mettupalayam Road facility, which has remained underutilised since it was opened in 2010.
SETC currently operates 66 services from Gandhipuram through its Coimbatore branch, while 40 services operated by other SETC branches also serve the city.
