Propaganda material for IMF and Westerners: Abiy claims he killed 116 Fano soldiers

This opinion piece criticizes Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his government's handling of the Fano rebel forces in the Amhara region. The author argues that the government's reported casualty figures are propaganda designed to maintain support from international financial institutions.
Why it matters
The article highlights the ongoing internal conflict in Ethiopia and the role of international perception in sustaining the current administration.
We know that Abiy is in deep trouble in containing the Fano forces who are supported by the vast majority of the nearly 30 million people in the Amhara region. Abiy and his government’s policy towards the Fano is to undermine them by portraying them as a small group of extreme rebel forces that can be contained and destroyed in a week. That is how they started the war in the region three years ago. They always refer to it as a “conflict” as a strategy to downplay its significance. But it is the real deal. He recruits around 40,000 soldiers every three months and sends them to the region in multiple rounds, probably more than 10 rounds, maybe even more so far, and all of them are either killed, wounded, captured, or switch sides to fight the government itself. How many tens of thousands of soldiers has he sacrificed so far? Abiy and his generals know the secret. They extend their stay in power by allowing young people to die in vain.
The text uses highly charged, oppositional language ('laughable propaganda', 'dirty work') to attack the government.
