Prominent dissidents left out of AIADMK’s bypoll campaign programmes

The AIADMK party has excluded several prominent dissident MLAs from its official star campaigner list for upcoming by-polls. This move follows internal friction caused by a group of legislators who previously voted in favor of the ruling TVK-led government.
Why it matters
This highlights ongoing political instability and internal power struggles within a major regional party in Tamil Nadu, impacting election strategy.
The AIADMK has left out prominent dissident-Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA), S.P. Velumani, C.Ve. Shanmugam and Natham R. Viswanathan, in its official programmes of by-poll campaign in Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly constituencies.
There are 13 sitting legislators including general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami who have figured in the list of star campaigners. The purpose of the party providing its list to the election authorities is to ensure that expenses borne on account of the travel of the campaigners are not considered for calculating election expenses of the party’s candidates.
