The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police on Friday (August 21) seized 181 kg of ganja and arrested one person.

The Periyanaickenpalayam unit of PEW intensified surveillance and checks at Karumathampatti based on specific information regarding the smuggling of ganja.

During the operation, PEW personnel found a person in a suspicious manner near a road to a private engineering college at Karumathampatti. The police questioned the man, identified as C. Chiranjeevi (39) of Theni district, and conducted a search at a location from where 181 kg of ganja was seized.

A case was registered against him under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
