A Class 12 student of a government school in Mayiladuthurai district on Tuesday attempted to end her life on the school premises after being allegedly pulled up by the headmaster for refusing to give a statement in his favour during an ongoing dispute among teachers.
The incident occurred at Government Higher Secondary School in Keelaperumpallam, where a dispute between the in-charge headmaster, Indrakumar, and some teachers has reportedly been ongoing for the past few days. An inquiry into the issue is being conducted by officials from the School Education Department.
According to sources, the headmaster had allegedly been asking students to speak in his favour during the inquiry and provide statements against other teachers. A class 12 female student was reportedly asked to support the headmaster before the inquiry officials.
