Hong Kong police are investigating after the body of a 53-year-old mainland Chinese woman was found in the waters near Lamma Island on Saturday morning.

Police received a report at 10.19am after a body was spotted floating in the ocean near the Lamma Power Station.

Firefighters were deployed to the scene to recover the woman from the water, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers found no suicide note, but recovered a mainland identity card from the body.
