Why it matters
The recurring nature of these incidents underscores a critical failure in institutional child protection mechanisms and highlights the urgent need for stricter oversight in educational environments.
Less than a month after two government teachers in Kakinada were suspended over sexual assault complaints by students, a physical education teacher at a private school in Kuppam of Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district has been arrested on a charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl student.
The girl studies at the school where the accused works, the police said. Based on a complaint filed by her family, the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and took the teacher into custody on Thursday (October 1, 2026).
The girl underwent a medical examination and her statement was recorded as per procedure. The accused was produced in court and remanded.
