Kenyasi Number Two, (Ahafo), July 25, GNA-Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education says President John Dramani Mahama has succeeded in fighting and reducing the smuggling of gold from the nation’s land borders and airports.
Mr Iddrisu was responding to a question during the commissioning of the Kenyasi Number Two Campus of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.
Barima Twereku Ampem III, the Paramount Chief of Ntotroso, also the President of the Ahafo Region House of Chiefs questioned the minister on the benefit of gold mining in employment and to revenue generation.
“I will be careful because that isn’t my mandate, but I am happy to note and report that gold exports reached a record high of GHC20 billion in 2025”, he stated.
