Preparedness for northeast monsoon reviewed in The Nilgiris

The Nilgiris district administration, along with State Animal Husbandry Minister, S. Kamali, reviewed measures being undertaken as The Nilgiris gears up for the northeast monsoon.

The district administration said that 29 zonal teams have been constituted to monitor 156 ‘vulnerable areas’ prone to landslips and natural calamities in case of heavy rain across the district’s six taluks. The teams will be on duty round the clock and six additional teams comprising district-level officers have been appointed as monitoring officers for the taluks.

A total of 456 relief centers that had been identified have also been kept in a state of preparedness to accommodate any evacuees from their houses during emergencies arising due to the monsoon. The preparations include officials and staff from the revenue, police, fire and rescue services, highways, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, public works, health and civil supplies departments as well as from the district administration.
