Fifty-one foreign nationals have been arrested in Pietermaritzburg in a crackdown on undocumented immigration and alleged non-compliance with the law.
Twenty-two were arrested on Church Street for allegedly being in South Africa without valid documentation, while a further 29 were arrested during operations at residential properties, including flats, across the city.
The operation, led by the Premier’s Office, police and Home Affairs Immigration officials, also resulted in at least one eatery on Church Street being closed on Tuesday morning.
