In light of the Karnataka government’s decision to allow teachers to use the prefix ‘Tr.’ before their names, B.S. Shivanna, Congress MLC, has urged Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to extend similar formal recognition to engineers and lecturers.

“Honouring teachers with formal professional recognition is a laudable step towards elevating the dignity of the teaching community in our State. In line with this initiative, I request the government to extend similar formal recognition to two other key professions that drive Karnataka’s growth, innovation and academic standing,” he said in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister.
