TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto held a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, to discuss preparations for potential extreme weather linked to the El Nino phenomenon and strengthen disaster mitigation efforts.The meeting was attended by several ministers and heads of government agencies, including officials responsible for forestry, agriculture, infrastructure, research, and weather monitoring.Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said the government is preparing for the potential impacts of El Nino, a climate phenomenon marked by warmer-than-usual sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean that can reduce rainfall in Indonesia.Raja Juli said El Nino was initially expected to return in 2027 based on its historical cycle."El Nino usually occurs every four years. It happened in 2015, then in 2019 and 2023.
