The Tamil Nadu Federation of Powerloom Associations has decided to seek an immediate increase in weaving wages for free school uniforms, including dhotis and sarees, and urged the State government to take steps to protect the powerloom industry. The decisions were taken at the federation’s executive committee meeting held here on Wednesday (September 9, 2026).
The meeting was chaired by federation president L.K.M. Suresh, secretary R. Velusamy and treasurer K. Balasubramaniam. The federation resolved to meet the Minister concerned and explain the difficulties faced by powerloom weavers in weaving free school uniforms and seek a revision of the wages.
