Powerful nor’easter causes coastal flooding and knocks out power to parts of the Northeast

A slow-moving, powerful storm creeping along the coast of the Northeast brought high winds that have caused power outages, while whipping up big waves and heavy rains. The New York City Housing Authority said one of its employees was killed by a fallen tree in Brooklyn, as the storm pelted the city with rain and strong winds on Saturday. Emergency crews in mid-Atlantic and New England states raced to restore power after downed trees contributed to outages for about 100,000 customers in the region. Also in New York, four people were hospitalized with minor injuries after they were struck by a falling tree in Brooklyn’s Kelly Park section, the city’s fire department said. Tens of millions of people remained in the path of the nor’easter for Sunday, with major flooding forecast for some coastal areas.
