Powerball jackpot hits $748M. Check Monday's winning numbers
The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $786 million following a series of rollovers since May. The lottery is also expanding its reach into the United Kingdom to attract a larger player base.
Why it matters
High-stakes lottery drawings generate significant public interest and revenue, often serving as a barometer for consumer spending on gambling.
A Powerball jackpot has increased once again and is worth an estimated $786 million after no one won the drawing on Monday, Aug. 3, giving lottery players another chance to win one of the largest prizes of the year.
The jackpot, which has an estimated cash value of $341.6 million, has grown since May, with no ticket matching all six numbers during the past three months. It will continue to increase each night it remains unclaimed. When the jackpot is eventually won, it will reset back to $20 million.
The drawing also marks a new chapter for the game, as Powerball's expansion into the United Kingdom could bring millions of additional players into future drawings.
