Powderfinger return to Perth sets up looming date clash with Dockers

Australian rock band Powderfinger has announced a 2027 reunion tour, with Perth dates potentially clashing with AFL preliminary finals. The logistical conflict has created concern for fans and local transport authorities regarding the high-profile events.
Why it matters
The clash highlights the intersection of major cultural events and sports in Australian cities, impacting local infrastructure and fan attendance.
Aussie rockers Powderfinger have confirmed two Perth dates for their 2027 reunion tour — but bad news for Fremantle Dockers fans with both shows almost certain to clash with a vital AFL final. Perth’s first show is locked in for Friday, September 24, with the legendary rockers backing up 24 hours later on Saturday, September 25. That is the date traditionally set aside for the AFL Grand Final, but the league has already confirmed next season’s decider will be played a week later than usual, on October 2. However, it means the AFL’s two preliminary finals will almost certainly clash directly with Powderfinger’s Perth gigs, both of which will take place at Wellington Square in East Perth.
