Poompuhar ushers in festive season with handcrafted idols, dolls

The Poompuhar showroom, an undertaking of Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, has heralded the festival season by launching a sales-cum-exhibition of idols and gift items in the city.
“As we celebrate Krishna Jayanthi this week, we have created special areas to display and showcase figurines and idols from various regions. We have started selling dolls for Golu [Navaratri]. Vinayaka Chaturthi idols and statuettes will be on display by next week,” J. Gayathri, manager, Poompuhar-Tiruchi, told The Hindu on Friday.

A vast range of idols portraying the avata r of Lord Krishna could be seen displayed prominently at the showroom on Friday. Idols of Lord Jagannath of Puri, and dolls set in scenes from the Ramayana are among the items on display here.
