Polymarket has reportedly fired its marketing chief, also a close friend of the CEO

Polymarket has reportedly terminated its Chief Marketing Officer, David Modabber, following an internal investigation into allegations of deceptive marketing practices. The move comes as the prediction market platform seeks to professionalize its image and address regulatory scrutiny regarding its operational transparency.
Why it matters
The firing highlights the growing pains of high-profile crypto startups as they transition from niche platforms to regulated entities eyeing public markets. It also underscores the tension between maintaining a 'scrappy' startup culture and meeting the governance standards required by investors and regulators.
The termination happened after an internal probe into several embarrassing episodes, including a reported scheme built on fake trades, that worried investors, the Post said, citing unnamed sources. Per one source, the firm is finalizing a separation agreement. Modabber had been chief marketing officer since January 2024.
CoinDesk has reached out to Polymarket for comment.
