Policeman among three killed in Namutumba crash

A head-on collision between a taxi and a truck in Uganda's Namutumba District resulted in three deaths and ten injuries. Police attribute the accident to reckless overtaking by the taxi driver.

Three people, including a police officer, were killed and 10 others injured in a road crash on the Iganga-Mbale Highway in Namutumba District on Tuesday night.
The crash occurred at about 7:30pm in Kalamira Village, Magada Sub-county, when a Toyota Hiace taxi travelling from Kampala to Mbale collided head-on with a HOWO Sino Truck trailer travelling in the opposite direction.
Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha said the taxi driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding with the oncoming trailer.
“It is alleged that the taxi driver attempted to overtake another vehicle carelessly, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming trailer,” Mr Kasadha said.
The deceased were identified as police constable Abasi Musomoki, police number 58545 PC; Ruutu Ruja Higenyi, 52, a resident of Jinja; and Ramathan Guloba, 39, a taxi conductor.
