Police send notices to students, CJP supporters ahead of October 10 Delhi protest

Indian police have issued notices to students and activists to prevent participation in an upcoming protest in Delhi organized by the Cockroach Janta Party. The notices cite law-and-order concerns and demand travel details, raising questions about the right to protest.
Why it matters
Illustrates the tension between state security measures and the democratic right to peaceful assembly.
One day before the Saturday (October 10, 2026) protest in Delhi called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and Left groups, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, students and Maharashtra-based residents associated with CJP and student groups have been receiving notices and calls from State police instructing them not to participate in the protest or seeking details of their travel to the capital.
A notice dated Thursday (October 8, 2026) sent to a Thane-based hydraulic mechanic stated that “Delhi Police has not granted any permission for CJP protest announced on October 10; we have received confidential information of your participation. So, I, Krushna Kokani, Senior Police Inspector, using the powers given to me under Section 168 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, order that you and your associates must not do any act that could cause a law-and-order problem.”
