Police seize 1.5 tons of illicit ration rice near Karaikudi

Police seized 1.5 tons of ration rice near Karaikudi here on Sunday.

Police said Pallathur police were conducting a vehicle check near Velangudi in the vicinity of Karaikudi. At that time, police intercepted a van travelling from Avudaipoigai to Pallathur.

Upon seeing them, the driver stopped the van and fled the scene. When the police subsequently inspected the vehicle, they found that it contained 1.5 tons of ration rice.

The police seized the rice and handed it over to the officials of the Department of Civil Supplies. Further, they are searching for the driver who escaped.
