Police seize 1,410 kg of dry ginger, 20 kg of cardamom

Police in Ramanathapuram seized over 1,400 kg of dry ginger and cardamom intended for smuggling to Sri Lanka. The suspects abandoned the contraband and a boat upon spotting authorities, and investigations are ongoing.

Ramanathapuram police have seized 1,410 kg of dry ginger and 20 kg of cardamom that were to be allegedly smuggled to Sri Lanka near Marakayar Pattinam beach close to Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district.
The Q Branch police received a tip-off that contraband goods were to be transported from Marakayar Pattinam beach to Sri Lanka. Promptly, a team led by Q Branch Inspector Jeevamani rushed to the spot early Sunday morning.
Upon spotting the Q Branch police, the smugglers abandoned 47 sacks right on the beach and fled. The sacks contained 1,410 kg of dry ginger and 20 kg of cardamom. Subsequently, the seized dry ginger, cardamom, and the country boat used for smuggling were handed over to the Customs Department.
