Police said the missing boy was found “wet and muddy” at the water’s edge playing near mangroves after a search by air and ground.
The boy’s mum reported that he had gone missing from their property on Friday just before 12.30pm.
“A neighbour had seen the boy walking towards an area of bush which leads towards an estuary,” Waitematā West Police Inspector Nick Salter said.
