Northumbria Police has released the description of a person that they would like to trace, as the investigation into a hit and run collision in South Shields continues. It was at 3.20pm on Saturday that Northumbria Police officers were called to the incident outside of the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park . It has been reported that a motorcycle collided with a mother and child as they crossed the road outside of the fairground. The motorcycle involved, which immediately left the scene, has been described as a 'petrol-powered motorbike intended for road use', which wasn't displaying a registration plate. Two other motorcyclists were referenced in a previous police appeal, but they have now been located and are no longer thought to be linked to the incident. The four-year-old boy was found to have sustained serious injuries, and remains in hospital, with the woman in her 30s suffering minor injuries. A section of the road, between Ocean Road and Beach Road, was closed for a short time due to the collision, but reopened shortly afterwards. The force's Roads Policing Unit is currently investigating the incident, with inquiries ongoing to find the person responsible. Now, officers have re-appealed for the motorcyclist to make themselves known, as well as asking any witnesses to come forward. They have also today released a description of the rider, in the hopes that this new information will encourage members of the public to get in touch. He is described as being a white male of thick build, and was wearing a sky blue, short-sleeved t-shirt, dark-coloured shorts, black ankle socks and red trainers. Anyone who can assist, including those with CCTV or dashcam footage, should send a direct message on social media or use the live chat and ‘report’ forms on the website here . Those who are unable to make contact with police in those ways are asked to call 101, quoting the following reference number: NP-20260627-0698.
