Police personnel suspended

A Head Constable and a constable have been placed under suspension after a youth, who was picked-up by the police during vehicle check for allegedly riding a bike under the influence of alcohol, consumed poison at Koodankulam police station on Thursday.
Sources in the police said S. Ramesh Kumar, 32, of Kavalkinaru under Panagudi police station limits was picked-up by the Koodankulam police during vehicle check on Thursday as he was allegedly riding bike under the influence of alcohol.
Police Head Constable Sivakumar and constable Veldurai took him to the Koodankulam police station.
When Sivakumar and Veldurai went inside the police station to take breathalyser, Ramesh Kumar consumed pesticide he was carrying. After first-aid at Koodankulam Government Hospital, the police rushed him to Kanniyakumari District Government Medical College Hospital at Aasaaripallam in Nagercoil for further treatment.
