Police officer suspended over alleged drunk driving

A sub-inspector attached to the Azheekal Coastal police station has been suspended for allegedly causing a road accident while driving under the influence of alcohol near Kannothumchal on the national highway on the night of September 21, 2026.

The officer, identified as Rajith, was allegedly driving the car when it hit three people, including a student who was returning home after a part-time job. All three sustained injuries.

The Kannur Town police registered a case on a complaint filed by the student injured in the accident.
