Police officer kills himself after shooting two at Freedom City

A police officer in Uganda shot and injured two people at Freedom City before taking his own life. Authorities are investigating the incident, which is suspected to be linked to a past relationship between the officer and one of the victims.

Police in Katwe are investigating a shooting at Freedom City along Entebbe Road in which a police officer shot and injured a woman and a private security guard before dying at the scene on Sunday.
The officer, identified as PPC Saul Ayijuka, allegedly shot Florence Akankunda, 23, and a private security guard before turning the gun on himself.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said preliminary findings indicate that the incident may have been linked to a previous relationship between Ayijuka and the female victim.
Akankunda sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh and was rushed to hospital for treatment. The injured security guard was also taken to hospital.
