Police officer injured in Manawatū fleeing driver incident ‘making progress’

The young police officer critically injured after being hit by a fleeing vehicle while laying road spikes is showing some signs of improvement, police say.
The officer, who was in a coma after being severely injured in the crash , remains in Wellington Hospital’s neurology ward, where he is being treated for a traumatic head injury , Central District Commander Superintendent Dion Bennett said.
“He is surrounded by his family and in the care of medical staff,” Bennett said in an update.
“Although he is making progress, his recovery could take some time.
“His treatment will be ongoing and he will be moving to a specialist medical facility for head injury recovery.
“His wider police family continue to support him and his loved ones.”
