The Tambaram City Police conducted surprise checks at private accommodations housing students in and around Potheri on Saturday, following information about the suspected possession and use of narcotic substances.

The operation was conducted on the orders of Tambaram Police Commissioner Prem Anand Sinha and under the supervision of an Assistant Commissioner of Police. It involved five Inspectors, 10 Sub-Inspectors, and around 80 police personnel.

Various private stay facilities and other accommodations occupied by students in Potheri were inspected, and 53 g of ganja was seized from six students. The substance, found in small quantities, was suspected to have been kept for personal consumption, the police said.

Other drug-related materials were also recovered during the operation. The six students are being questioned about the source of the seized substances.
