The Nilgiris district police held a district-wide coordination meeting with college administrations focusing on ensuring student safety, security and welfare on higher education campuses.
The initiative included heads of colleges across the district, with the District Superintendent of Police, S. Brinda, informing attendees about the strict ‘zero-tolerance policy’ against drug consumption and trafficking in and around campuses, a press release from the police stated.
The release added that college managements were directed to actively track behavioural shifts [among students], physical or dental indicators of substance abuse, and unexplained chronic absenteeism, with mandatory instructions to report any suspicious activities to the local police immediately.
Alongside substance control, institutions were reminded of their legal obligation to maintain fully operational Internal Complaints Committees to ensure gender safety and prompt grievances redress, while strictly enforcing anti-ragging laws through active campus monitoring squads, it added.
