Police ask VeryDarkMan to honour invitation over allegations against AIG Jimoh

The Nigeria Police Force has invited activist VeryDarkMan to substantiate his public allegations against AIG Moshood Jimoh regarding a murder investigation. The police emphasize that grievances should be handled through official channels rather than social media campaigns.
Why it matters
The conflict highlights tensions between social media activism and institutional legal processes in Nigeria's justice system.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has asked Martins Vincent Otse, an activist popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to honour its invitation and substantiate his allegations against Moshood Jimoh, assistant inspector-general of police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ani Iniedu, force spokesperson, said the grievances against police officers are best resolved through established complaint mechanisms rather than public campaigns.
Iniedu said the allegations against Jimoh must be “formally submitted, investigated, and objectively assessed”.
In April, the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) arrested Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, a Lagos-based businessman, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, over allegations of involvement in two murder cases between 2023 and 2024.
In February, Akanbi was declared wanted by the police over alleged involvement in violent crimes in Ajiran community of Eti-Osa LGA.
