Police arrest journalist, his accomplice in extortion case; sent to judicial custody

A journalist and his accomplice were arrested in Dindigul, India, for attempting to extort money from a de-addiction center owner. The duo threatened to publish damaging stories unless they were paid five lakh rupees.

In a case of extortion, two persons, including a weekly magazine reporter in Dindigul district, were arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
Following a complaint from Ezhilarasi, wife of Rathnam, Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar directed the police to register a case.
DSP Karthik, Inspector Meenakshi and SI Kader Mydeen and their team conducted investigations.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Ezhilarasi had been running a de-addiction centre in RM Colony Fourth Cross Street. On October 4, two persons identified as Pushpa Giridharan, 36, son of Arul Raj, a journalist, and Manoj, 27, son of Gnana Stalin of West Arockiya Madha Street, visited her centre.
