The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public, especially in areas severely affected by widespread flooding, of the sustained police assistance to strengthen disaster response and ensure the safety of affected communities. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. earlier ordered the mobilization of more policemen and resources to assist stranded passengers and in the conduct of disaster response that includes evacuation. This as rains from the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat” continue to affect Metro Manila and various areas in Luzon and the Visayas “Our priority is to keep our personnel and resources where they are most needed. We will continue rescue and evacuation operations, secure evacuation centers, clear critical roads, and deliver assistance to communities that remain affected,” said Nartatez.
