Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Chennai to inaugurate the new Chennai Metro Phase II stretch alongside Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The visit has prompted significant security measures, including drone bans and traffic diversions across the city.
Why it matters
Infrastructure development and high-level political visits are major events that impact urban logistics and regional governance.
The ban, except for activities authorised as part of government arrangements, will be in force on Sunday (October 11, 2026).
The Greater Chennai Police have declared areas around Meenambakkam, Guindy, Kotturpuram, Porur, and Nandambakkam, and the routes to be taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Chennai on Sunday, as ‘Red Zones’, prohibiting the flying of drones and other unmanned aerial objects.
The police also said prohibitory orders issued under Sections 163 and 14(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, banning the use of drones, remote-controlled micro-light aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, and hot-air balloons, among other aerial objects, remain in force across Greater Chennai Police limits from August 18 to October 16.
