PM Modi cancelled Bihar tour realising BJP will lose Bankipur bypoll: Tejashwi

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav claims Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled a planned Bihar visit due to the BJP's fear of losing the upcoming Bankipur bypoll. The political tension follows student protests and the government's decision to withdraw cases against demonstrators involved in the NEET paper leak controversy.
Why it matters
The situation reflects high-stakes political maneuvering in Bihar and the ongoing fallout from national education testing scandals.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "cancelled his tour of Bihar" upon realising that the student unrest and the "growing unpopularity" of his government would lead to BJP’s defeat in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll.
There has been no word from the BJP government in the State on the PM’s tour.
However, Mr. Yadav, who is the Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, claimed that Mr. Modi had planned to visit the State to inaugurate a bridge.
