PM Anwar meeting Min Aung Hlaing is not acknowledgement of Myanmar governance

Malaysian Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil clarified that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s meeting with Myanmar's leader Min Aung Hlaing does not constitute diplomatic recognition of the current Myanmar government. The discussion focused on addressing the Myanmar refugee crisis in Malaysia.
Why it matters
The meeting highlights the delicate diplomatic balance Malaysia must maintain regarding the Myanmar conflict while managing domestic refugee issues.
KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s meeting with President Min Aung Hlaing is not a sign of any acknowledgement towards the Myanmar governance, says Communication Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
“The meeting between both parties in Kuala Lumpur today is not a form of acknowledgement.
“I mention this because there are some who are saying that Malaysia acknowledges the government in Myanmar, but we won’t be doing so as long as the Asean five-point consensus is not fulfilled,” he said.
Fahmi said he is just trying to make Malaysia’s stand on this matter clear.
