Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the protest committee members said their hamlet Pottaloorani in Srivaikundam Taluk of Thoothukudi district had been surrounded by three factories using tonnes of trash fishes with unbearable odour for manufacturing their products that include poultry feed, fish oil, fish powder etc. Since the nauseating smell emanating from the rotten fish envelops Pottaloorani round the clock, the villagers started protests demanding the closure of these units considering the health of the villagers and the farmlands.
