Plea to operate Tambaram-Bodinayakanur Special through Kumbakonam

The Federation of Tamil Nadu Traders Associations has requested that the Southern Railway reroute the Tambaram-Bodinayakanur special train through Kumbakonam. They argue this change would provide better access to confirmed seats for commuters in the Thanjavur and Kumbakonam regions.
Why it matters
Optimizing train routes is critical for regional connectivity and addressing passenger demand in high-traffic transit corridors.
The Federation Tamil Nadu Traders Associations, Thanjavur unit, has appealed to Southern Railway to operate Tambaram-Bodinayakanur special train through Kumbakonam instead of through Tiruvarur from Mayiladuthurai junction.
In a statement on Thursday (September 3), the federation said operating the special train through Kumbakonam on Saturday nights and on Sunday nights would help commuters hailing from in and around Kumbakonam and Thanjavur avail confirmed seats. The probability of getting confirmed seats/berths in lone night service Uzhavan Express, originating from/to Thanjavur to and from Chennai Egmore/Tambaram, remained elusive for passengers.
