Planning permissions jump by 60% in second quarter - CSO

New figures from the Central Statistis Office show there was a 60% increase in the total number of homes granted planning permission in the months between April and June of this year compared to same time in 2025.

Planning was approved for a total of 11,912 dwellings, which was made up of 6,275 houses - up 33% - and 5,637 apartments - a rise of 107% - according to the CSO figures.

While the figures show a rise in the grant of planning permissions in the second quarter of this year, they follow a fall of 1% in the first three months of 2026. Experts note that the quarterly figures can be volatile.

Yesterday, the Central Bank said it was now taking twice as long to build a home as it did a decade ago with the gap between planning lodgment and completion now four years.
