Pinarayi slams Keralam government over blocking of NOCAP’s Facebook page

Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the UDF government after Facebook blocked the page of the digital media outlet NOCAP. He alleged the move is an attempt to suppress freedom of expression and mirrors national-level political intolerance.
Why it matters
The incident highlights ongoing tensions regarding digital censorship and press freedom in regional Indian politics.
Facebook’s decision to block the page of independent Malayalam digital media outlet NOCAP is the latest instance of the United Democratic Front (UDF) government’s attempts to suppress freedom of expression, Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
Neither Meta, the parent company of Facebook, nor the government has explained the reason for the decision, Mr. Vijayan alleged in a social media post. This move reflects the intolerance of the government towards criticism and press freedom, the Opposition leader added.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and the UDF government practises the same persecution of the media that is carried out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Sangh Parivar, he alleged.
