PIB’s orientation programme for journalists on using AI tools in their profession

The Press Information Bureau organised a one-day orientation programme for journalists on using Artificial Intelligence tools to make news reports and articles lucid and interesting. Inaugurating the programme, Tirunelveli Collector Anand Mohan appealed to journalists to carry news, particularly sensational developments, only after adequately verifying the facts instead of rushing to “break” news without cross-checking the information. The advent of social media platforms had intensified competition among media houses, while facts were increasingly being pushed to the backseat, he said. The fourth pillar of democracy should therefore exercise extreme caution while reporting developments, particularly those that could trigger panic or unrest. The Collector also cautioned journalists against being misled by AI-generated or deepfake photographs and videos that often spread wrong and fabricated information.
