Physically challenged seek increased monthly assistance depending upon nature of deformity

Seeking an increase in monthly assistance for differently abled persons based on the nature of their disability, they staged a demonstration here on Thursday.
The protesters said the Tamil Nadu Government should increase the monthly assistance to ₹6,000, ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 based on the nature of disability, as being given by the Andhra Pradesh government. Since caregivers of persons with severe disabilities faced difficulties in taking care of them, the assistance should be increased proportionately, they said.
The protesters also blamed the Union Government for being “indifferent” towards the welfare of differently abled persons. The United Nations Special Declaration and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, had guaranteed dignified living conditions for the differently abled by ensuring a level playing field in education, employment, social security, healthcare and rehabilitation.
