Physically challenged persons stage road roko for hike in monthly assistance
Physically challenged individuals in Tamil Nadu staged protests demanding an increase in monthly government assistance from the current ₹1,500-₹2,000 range to up to ₹15,000. Demonstrators were briefly detained by police in Vannarpet and Tenkasi during the protests.

Seeking an increase in monthly assistance and disbursal to all registered persons, a group of physically challenged persons staged a road roko at Vannarpet here on Monday.
They said the ‘trivial’ monthly assistance of ₹1,500-₹2,000 should be increased to ₹6,000, ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 based on the nature of disability, which is being followed in a few States. “Despite our repeated appeals to the government, the assistance has not been increased for the past four years.,” said Perumal, an office-bearer of Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers.
The protestors were picked up by the police and released later.
