President William Ruto on Wednesday inspected and commissioned several development projects in Bomet County, including the Dr Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Hospital in Longisa, road construction and water infrastructure.

The 250-bed Level 4 facility is expected to provide specialised maternal and child healthcare, as well as theatre, emergency, inpatient and outpatient services to residents of Bomet and neighbouring areas.

The hospital is also expected to ease pressure on Longisa County Referral Hospital and help address the county’s maternal mortality rate, which stands at 493 deaths per 100,000 live births.
