Pharmacies in Krishnagiri asked to be vigilant against dispensing habit-forming drugs
Police in Krishnagiri have instructed pharmacy owners to strictly adhere to regulations regarding the sale of habit-forming and psychotropic drugs. Shop owners must maintain proper inventory, install CCTV, and report any suspicious bulk purchases to authorities.

A coordination meeting with pharmacists and medical shop owners was chaired by the Superintendent of Police G.S. Anitha at the office of the Superintendent of Police here on Saturday (August 8, 2026). The meeting was convened to crackdown illegal sale and circulation of psychotropic drugs that are habit-forming, and to prevent drug abuse.
Drugs shall be dispensed only against prescriptions by qualified registered medical practitioner, for schedule H, H1, and X-controlled drugs. A proper inventory of the drugs in stock and sales must be maintained in compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
The medical shops were instructed to be vigilant against any suspicious procurement of large quantum of drugs by an individual. Such purchases must immediately be alerted to the police and the Health Department.
All medical shops must have CCTV cameras installed and the shop owners must ensure that the cameras are functioning and their recordings preserved.
